Nestled on a headland, amongst lush tropical gardens, The Shooting Star Lodge overlooks the beautiful fine white sands and coconut palms of Kiwengwa beach. The atmosphere is intimate and tranquil with spectacular views across a coral reef to the azure Indian Ocean beyond.

Zanzibar

Zanzibar is an island off the coast of Tanzania, whose very name inspires visions of The Thousand and One Nights and evokes the heady aroma of cloves and spices for which the islands of Zanzibar and Pemba are famous. It’s an island paradise where you can hide away, far from the hustle and bustle of the modern world, about 60 km from Tanzania’s principal port of Dar es Salaam.

Zanzibar may seem distant right now, but it’s actually very easy to reach us. Zanzibar airport receives many scheduled international flights including Gulf Air, Kenya Airways and Ethiopian Airways. There are also regular connections from Nairobi and Mombassa in Kenya, and Arusha and Moshi in Tanzania—an ideal location from which to lazily launch, or peacefully wind down from, your game-viewing safari adventures on the African mainland.

Even more international airlines fly to Dar es Salaam on the Tanzanian mainland, including KLM, British Airways, Air France, Swiss Air, SAS, Sabena, Egypt Air and Sudan Airways. You can easily travel onwards to Zanzibar by an inexpensive shuttle flight with a private air charter company, such as Zan Air, Precision Air or Coastal, or get your first taste of the Indian Ocean on a fast hydrofoil service between the port at Dar es Salaam and the port at Zanzibar Town. Transfer time is around 2 hours and it’s a lovely way to arrive on the island; an adventure in itself.

Once you’ve got your feet back on the ground, The Shooting Star Lodge is less than an hour’s journey from Zanzibar Town by taxi, or we can arrange for you to be met by a friendly face, Ali Baba, our driver, who will pick you up in person and escort you directly to the Lodge at Kiwengwa Beach.
